The Barbarian’s resource system in Diablo 3 is not like it was in Diablo 2. Instead of Mana, the Barbarian uses Fury to fuel its most powerful attacks and buffs.
Fury works a lot like Rage does for the Warrior in World of Warcraft: you generate Fury when you use your weaker abilities (these abilities are known as Fury generators) as well as when you take damage. The more often you are hit and the more damage you take, the Faster you generate Fury.

Don’t get me wrong – certain Barbarian builds can burn through a ton of Fury, but if you are out of Fury, your damage does not significantly slow down. Compare that to the Demon Hunter or Wizard, where when you are out of Hatred or Arcane Power, your in-between spells feel very weak in comparison to the Barbarian’s.
As a final strength, the Barbarian has a lot of damage mitigation and life drains. In particular, its ability to wear a shield, its large variety of stuns, and its ability to use Deafening Shout (reduces enemy damage by 20%) are big boost against tough enemies.
No Diablo 3 Barbarian guide would be complete without also discussing the weaknesses of this class. The primary weakness is that it is a melee class. If you have not played Diablo 2 or 3 before, you may not realize why exactly this is listed as a weakness.
The problem with being a melee class is that it is hard to deal with unlucky spawns where tons of enemies are in the same area or against certain enemy types which are particularly difficult to deal with, such as ones enchanted by certain elements.
For example, Arcane Enchanted champion enemies are difficult to deal with because it is hard to dodge the Hydra’s blasts at melee range. Ranged classes will be able to easily get out of the way of these types of blasts.
This means that as a Barbarian you are going to need a lot more Vitality and need to construct a resistance-oriented set if you are wanting to play in Inferno mode and be successful. This will cut into the Barbarian’s massive damage which you might think of as some sort of advantage in regular mode.
